Reinvesting the dividends

Recently, I took some actions that led to me having a bit more energy than usual. (You’ll never guess: I made a few nourishing changes to my eating, and was using screens a bit less.)

And my brain immediately thought: Woohoo, bonus energy! Let’s spend it!

Let’s actually take social media seriously for my business.
Let’s start going to pilates 1x/week and also yoga 1x/week.
And maybe a French class?

And then, some much-wiser part of me remembered:

Katie, this healthier eating + using less screens is *also* taking a bit of energy to maintain. It’s new, after all!

So what if you just…reinvested the dividends?

What if you just took this extra energy — and didn’t spend it — and instead, used the extra energy to let these new practices get easier + easier.

Friends, this concept really blew my mind.

Of course, I’ve shared before that many of us (me included!) have to learn how to *have* energy, without spending it. (More on that here)

But this idea of reinvesting the dividends felt like it took that concept to the next level. What if we used the energy we aren’t spending to just…make the healthy things we’re doing less effortful

  • Until staying off of screens for the first hour of your day feels like an easy routine, not white-knuckling…

  • Until spending 10 minutes lying on the floor feels obvious and right, not like another item on your to-do list…

  • Until you just naturally sit down with tea and your notebook to journal, without even thinking about it…

What if you just re-invested those energetic dividends into making the healthy + nourishing things you’re already doing feel easy-peasy, before adding more?

This one has been circling in my heart + my body recently. I wonder how it will land in yours.

As always, I’m rooting for you. You’ve got this.
Katie
